Ireland: Tuesday, May 19 through Friday, May 29. 2009 (Offered in conjunction with Strabo Tours)
After skipping Ireland the past three years, we are anxious to return for our 8th trip. We will begin our journey in the last bastion of Old Ireland in the west of Ireland from our home base in County Mayo. We will travel by a comfortable mini-coach to colorful villages, hidden beaches, ancient abbeys, and druid woods. Midway through our trip we will travel south into County Clare to the scenic Loophead Peninsula where we will encounter a very different landscape. Olcan Masterson, a walking authority on the history of western Ireland, will guide us through the towns, hills and back roads. Olcan will not just take us to shooting locations, but will help us to experience and understand his wonderful country in a most entertaining way. Days are spent photographing in one or two main locations and it is not unusual to make unscheduled stops when we run across interesting photographic subjects. In County Mayo we will stay near Westport, in Hillcrest House, where we will be served breakfast and a hot dinner each evening. Lunches will be at various restaurants and pubs along the way or we may take a picnic lunch. On the second portion of our trip we will stay in comfortable four-star Irish eco-lodge on the Loophead Peninsula. South of Kilkee we begin our journey traveling the coast road around the loop head. We will have several photographic opportunities each day of sea stacks, natural bridges, caves and ragged islands off the coast. We end at the Loop Head lighthouse, after passing unusual islands that rise straight out of the water and sport flat, grassy tops. We will finish our trip at Bunratty Folk Park. This is the place to get those thatched cottage pictures that are becoming hard to find in Ireland. This workshop is perfect for adult photographers of all levels and we welcome non-photographing spouses or friends who would like to join us to sketch, paint, write or just enjoy the experience of Ireland. The memories from this trip will stay with you long after you have returned home and you will find yourself making plans for a return visit.

International flights tend to leave in the evening and arrive the following day. Please note, the 19th of May is the day you will be leaving the US. We will be meeting you the morning of the 20th.
